Projects on non-industrial private forestlands in the United States, 40–5,000 forested acres per site, aggregated across multiple small landowners via a programmatic approach. Participating landowners must hold clear title/control of timber and carbon rights and demonstrate sites are eligible for legal harvest at start. The primary mechanism is a commitment to forego/defer harvest (grow trees longer, increase stocking) over a 20-year crediting period within a minimum 40-year project term. Non-native species allowed only if naturalized and not displacing native stands; manipulation of water tables/wetlands prohibited.
